Free website audit: the 20 things to check on your website in 2026

A practical checklist to audit your website for free: offer, trust, contact, tracking, cookies, SEO, AI visibility and speed — plus a tool that checks it in 30 seconds.

A website can look great and still lose customers every day because of issues you can’t see: an untracked form, a cookie banner that blocks analytics, a title Google cuts off, or a page that loads too slowly on mobile. This checklist gathers the 20 points we review on every site.

Rather have us check it? The free audit runs these checks automatically in 30 seconds.

Part 1 · Business: what a customer sees

  1. A clear offer above the fold: what you do, for whom and why you.
  2. Visible prices, or at least a “from” price.
  3. Your own optimised images, with descriptive alt text and light formats (WebP/AVIF).
  4. Video: a short clip explains in seconds what text takes minutes to say.
  5. Visible reviews: according to BrightLocal, the vast majority of consumers read reviews before choosing a business.
  6. One-click contact: short form, phone or WhatsApp on every page.
  7. Chat or WhatsApp for quick questions.
  8. Linked social profiles that show you’re active.
  9. Legal and trust pages: privacy, cookies, legal notice; for stores, shipping and returns too.

Part 2 · Technical: what Google and AI see

  1. HTTPS everywhere.
  2. A 50–60 character title with what you sell and your value proposition.
  3. A 120–155 character meta description that earns the click.
  4. One H1 per page, aligned with the search you want to win.
  5. Mobile-friendly with easy-to-tap buttons.
  6. Declared language (and language versions for each market).
  7. Structured data (schema.org): organisation, services, products, FAQs.
  8. Sitemap submitted to Search Console.
  9. Analytics with real conversions: GA4 or Tag Manager tracking forms, calls and sales.
  10. Cookie consent and Consent Mode v2 — see our Consent Mode v2 guide.
  11. Mobile speed (Core Web Vitals): according to the 2025 Web Almanac, cited by DebugBear, only around half of mobile sites pass.

Extra for 2026: let AI read you

  • Make sure your robots.txt doesn’t block GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot or Google-Extended.
  • Publish an llms.txt file summarising who you are and what you offer.
  • Answer on your site the questions customers ask ChatGPT — see our GEO guide.

How to prioritise

Priority Fix first Why
1 Tracking and cookies Without reliable data, everything else is guesswork
2 Contact and trust That’s where visitors who already arrived are lost
3 Title, description, H1 Quick wins for clicks from Google
4 Speed and mobile Affects conversion and rankings
5 Structured data and AI Prepares your brand for Google and AI assistants
